“Curious if you know what this is going to be? Looks like the house was sold last year and right away filed for a liquor license.”

A new wine bar called Lorelei (Instagram) will be moving into the building at 737 N. Thornton Avenue [GMap], and construction is well underway, with an opening date expected sometime this February.
The project is another likely hit by Suffering Bastard duo Arthur Boothe and Julian Burgos who also opened the absinthe-focused Death in the Afternoon on Mills Avenue in late 2023.
The name is a nod to a German siren who threw herself into the Rhine River after her lover betrayed her. She was transformed into a siren, who would enchant sailors with her songs so they would crash on the rocks. Gershwin wrote a song about her.
Construction is being overseen by GDP Design Build and the proposal filed with the City of Orlando calls for converting an existing commercial building from a retail establishment to an alcoholic beverage establishment. Entry to the parking lot will be provided at the rear of the building from North Thornton Ave.
The wine bar will feature 10 seats, and a lounge area, and two private rooms for hosting wine events. As the outdoor seating area is less than 25% of the existing building, no new parking spaces are required for the proposed outside eating area. A total of seven on-site parking spaces are required to be provided.
