The Florida Department of Environmental Protection recently retrieved water samples from Lake Formosa in which they detected the presence of toxins that can be unsafe to humans at certain levels.

The toxins are the result of harmful algal blooms in the lake, which are naturally occurring (though exacerbated by runoff and pet waste).

All water contact activities should cease until further notice. The Florida Department of Environmental Protection will continue to monitor the levels until they are safe.
