Mead Botanical Garden (Facebook Website) will host its popular annual event, The Great Duck Derby, on Saturday, March 29, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in Winter Park.

The derby features a rubber duck race on a section of Howell Creek, which flows through the Mead Garden property. Event-goers can adopt a duck for $5 that will be dumped into the river en masse via a ceremonial bucket. The first to cross the finish line will win. What, we’re not sure, but bragging rights for sure.

Ducks can also be adopted in 5-duck “quack packs” for $20 and they can be decorated pre-race at the official “Duckoration Station.” There will be three races throughout the day including 11:15 a.m., noon, and 1 p.m. Other activities include a sing-along concert with Mr. Harley, bounce houses, nature crafts, a visit from the UCF Bug Closet, free tree giveaway from the City of Winter Park, and much more.

All proceeds from the race will go towards supporting the botanical garden’s child-focused nature programs.
