In the early hours of February 4, 2025, a violent shootout erupted on the fourth floor of a parking garage located at 400 N. Orange Avenue [GMap] in downtown Orlando. The incident stemmed from an attempted robbery targeting individuals transporting large quantities of marijuana.
According to the Orlando Police Department, around 1:52 a.m., three individuals were seen carrying sizable boxes to a white Tesla. Shortly thereafter, two vehicles—a white Hyundai Tucson and a blue Acura sedan—arrived at the scene. The occupants of these vehicles confronted the individuals with the boxes, leading to an exchange of gunfire. The assailants then fled the scene.
Police located the vehicle near West Robinson Street and Beggs Avenue, where they were able to detain the driver, Kelly Mala. Two other suspects were captured on foot: Bahanni Haywood and D’Jon Heyliger.
Investigations revealed that the boxes contained vacuum-sealed packages of marijuana, totaling approximately 16 pounds. The orchestrated nature of the robbery indicated prior knowledge of the drug transport, with seven suspects coordinating their efforts using multiple vehicles and firearms.
One of the suspects, 32-year-old Heyliger, was apprehended and faces charges including attempted murder with a firearm, robbery with a firearm, and discharging a firearm from a motor vehicle. During his initial arrest, Heyliger reportedly refused to cooperate with authorities and later complained of a medical issue, leading to his hospitalization before being booked into the Orange County jail.
Six people have been arrested. No one was injured. OPD has not identified who the suspects allegedly stole the cannabis from and the investigation is still ongoing.
