Chicken Guy!, the fried “chicken joint” from Flavortown politician Guy Fieri, has closed its Winter Park location.
According to a statement provided to Orlando Business Journal’s Ryan Lynch, Chicken Guy! shuttered this location “to focus on regional growth and national expansion through new franchises.”
However, according to a report from the Orlando Weekly last year, Chicken Guy! was experiencing some dysfunction.
The closure likely signals the end of an area once lovingly referred to as the Chicken Strip (née Cock Block), which at its most engorged, featured eight fried chicken establishments along Orlando Avenue, including Jam Hot, The Coop, Chick-Fil-A, PDQ, Publix, Popeye’s, and Chick ‘n’ Cone.
There are currently no plans to close the chain’s first, and only other Central Florida location, inside Walt Disney World’s Disney Springs.
