The SoDo District is about to get a whole lot brighter—and they want your help.
SoDo Main Street District has launched Call for Color, a new public art campaign calling on local artists, business owners, and property owners to help transform the neighborhood through color and creativity.
Art Box Project — Apply by July 7
The first phase, the 2025 Art Box Project, will turn up to 20 traffic signal utility boxes into vibrant public art. Creatives of all backgrounds are encouraged to submit designs—painted or digital.
Stipends:
- $750 for hand-painted boxes (includes supplies)
- $500 for digital designs (professionally wrapped by SoDo)
Selected artists must design all five surfaces (four sides + top). Installations will take place between August–September. Multiple submissions are allowed—and encouraged. Apply by July 7!
Willing Walls — Properties Wanted
The second part of the initiative, Willing Walls, is a call to property and business owners to offer up blank exterior walls for future murals and public art. There’s no contract—just a chance to get on the radar for upcoming projects and help beautify the district.
Why It Matters
“As SoDo grows, we want that growth to reflect the pride and personality of our community,” said Misty Heath, Executive Director of SoDo Main Street. “These projects invite creatives to show off their talent — and give business and property owners a chance to be part of something bold, visible, and lasting.”
Whether you’re an artist ready to leave your mark or a business looking to bring life to your storefront, SoDo’s Call for Color is your chance to be part of something bigger.
