Tucked into the funky little V where Orange Avenue splits and gets weird south of Downtown Orlando, Theater on the Edge is the kind of place you might miss if you’re not looking, but once you find it, you won’t forget it.

This hidden gem, housed in an unassuming storefront with just 30 seats, is doing something rare in Orlando’s theater scene: blending film and stage into what they call a Cinematic Theater Experience. According to their website, “Our intimate 30-seat venue allows the audience to be up close and personal with the actors. The proximity to the stage allows your eyes to become the camera, shifting focus from one moment to the next—simulating a film experience.” That intimacy, combined with film-level detail in sets, wardrobe, props, and performance, creates the feeling of watching a movie unfold live on stage.

Their latest production, The Sunset Limited by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Cormac McCarthy, opens this Saturday, July 5, and runs through July 27. The tense, two-man play begins when a reformed ex-con saves a stranger from a suicide attempt in a New York subway. What follows is a raw, riveting conversation in a Harlem apartment—where faith, doubt, and the meaning of life are put on trial.

You could catch the latest Superman or Jurassic Park flick this month… or you could support local art and choose a live cinematic experience that is far more personal.

Theater on the Edge is connected to Truthful Acting Studio, where the same techniques used on stage are taught in-depth to students throughout the year.
