Don Perlimplín, viejo solterón, gracias a la influencia de su fiel criada, Marcolfa, se anima a contraer nupcias con la joven vecina, Belisa, quien convencida por su madre de la conveniencia de la unión, accede; el deseo erótico, el romance, la magia y la tragedia, se mezclan para dar vida a esta sátira, una de las creaciones favoritas del dramaturgo español Federico García Lorca, quien en palabras a la prensa durante el estreno en 1933 afirma que busca “subrayar el contraste entre lo lírico y lo grotesco y aún mezclarlos en todo momento.”

Don Perlimplin, an old bachelor, thanks to the influence of his faithful maid, Marcolfa, is encouraged to marry his young neighbor, Belisa. At the same time, Belisa’s mother convinces her of the convenience of this marriage, and she agrees. The erotic desire, romance, magic, and tragedy, are mixed to give life to this satire, one of the favorite creations of the Spanish playwright Federico Garcia Lorca, who in his words to the press during the premiere in 1933 said that the purpose of this play was “to underline the contrast between the lyrical and the grotesque, and even mix them both at all times.”
