Equitable and Inclusive Engagement: Creating an Accessible Virtual Meeting Space

January 27 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

The pandemic has changed almost every aspect of our lives and created vast distances both physically and emotionally for people. For many, the only way to keep in touch and work is through a variety of digital platforms. However, for people with disabilities these platforms can pose challenges. Many have not considered issues around equity and inclusion for persons with disabilities and for persons without access to broadband or smart phones.

Join Nicole Cabral, Associate Director for New York Engagement Programs at Public Agenda, and Paul Khouri, a multicultural disability rights advocate, to learn how to create a more inclusive and welcoming digital environment through exploring how to make engaging online more equitable.

For reasonable accommodation requests to attend this discussion, please contact Jennifer Orellana at [email protected] no later than Wednesday, January 20, 2021.

Paul Khouri is a multicultural disability rights advocate. Over the past 10 years, he has worked to improve accessibility to the disability community on local, national, and international levels. Some of his accomplishments include: creating resume workshops for DC residents with disabilities, providing guidance on how to create an accessible website to a nationwide staffing agency and developing resources for an advocacy organization to build accessible bathrooms internationally. In 2016, Paul was awarded the Equal Rights Center Advocate of the Year. Read about Paul Khouri in the Washington Post.

Nicole Cabral is Associate Director for New York Engagement Programs at Public Agenda. She manages the Public Engagement team in the development and execution of projects on a variety of local and national issues. Read Nicole’s full bio.
