Integrating Arts and Culture into Community Development

May 14, 2020 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

Integrating Arts and Culture into Community Development

May 14th from 10 am to 4 pm

Lunch included

Description:

Join us in rural, historic Blackville, SC to learn about creative placemaking and the link between arts, culture and community development. Rural LISC, the South Carolina Arts Commission, and Blackville CDC will discuss how creative placemaking is more than just an art project or activity; it brings together communities of all sizes, builds relationships, advances community building and creates new pride of place. Participants will learn from examples throughout the state, and consider the tools, resources, and partnerships necessary to integrate arts and culture in their community building efforts. Part of the training will include a walking tour to see firsthand how Blackville considered its assets; asked what was compelling and urgent; and engaged its citizens in projects that highlight the region’s history and enhance its sense of place. Come ready to share your own experiences, ask questions and explore ways your community may use arts and culture as important tools to build healthy, engaged and more connected places to live, work and play.
