In this workshop, Florida Prize Artist Anja Marais will walk you through how to access your inner imaginary realm to retrieve your ancestral records of rich mythological and symbolic images. The workshop will include discourse, guided meditation, and journaling.

Anja Marais was born and raised in South Africa and is a self-guided student of traditional African animistic philosophies especially that of the Bantu, the Khoikhoi and the San people. In 1994 she had a transcendental experience in the Kalahari desert of Namibia that would forever impact her approach to contemporary art making. She has studied art extensively as a longtime studio apprentice to a landscape painter, at the University of Pretoria, and the University of South Africa. She also attended art residencies in Japan, Korea, Finland, Russia, Sedona, and several other art programs in the United States. She has been including meditation as part of her studio practice for over a decade.
