Justice for Salaythis Melvin Rally- Orange County Budget Meeting

September 10, 2020 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

It has been over 1 month since the fatal shooting of Salaythis Melvin by Orange County Sheriff’s Agent James Montiel and yet the family and community are still awaiting updates from the investigation, from law enforcement leadership and elected officials. We have yet to hear from many of our county commissioners and have yet to receive a direct statement about this incident from our Orange County Mayor. Enough is Enough. We need our leadership to speak up to the community and we shouldn’t have to ask. We are showing up to make sure leadership and the city know about this incident and will speak up on it and help us obtain justice.
Please join us and for any updates text “SALAYTHIS to 31996”
We will be peacefully protesting, wearing masks or face cloths and social distancing at this event. We will also be uplifting other victims of police brutalities locally and across the globe.
Who is Salaythis Melvin??
Salyaythis Melvin is a 22 year old, black man that was SHOT IN THE BACK AND KILLED BY ORANGE COUNTY SHERIFF AGENT JAMES MONTIEL .
On August 7th, 2020 in the Dick’s Sporting Good’s parking lot at The Florida Mall (Orlando, FL), Salaythis Melvin was with a group of friends who were being followed by agents from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. Salaythis Melvin was not a suspect nor was he one of the people being watched. Despite this, undercover agents approached Salaythis at the Dick’s Sporting Goods, without full uniform or indication that they were
law enforcement. Salaythis fled from the undercover agents and was in pursuit by Agent James Montiel.
In pursuit, Agent Montiel shot Salaythis one time in the back and killed him. Early statements released by Orange County Sheriff’s office indicated that Salaythis Melvin had a stolen gun in his possession
when he was shot , but body cam footage does not show Salaythis having any gun in his possession.

My name is _________, I am a resident of Orange County, Fl. I’m emailing today on behalf of the fatal shooting of Salaythis Melvin by Orange County Deputy Agent James Montiel on August 7th, 2020 in the Dick’s Sporting Goods parking lot located in the Florida Mall. I’m calling for the immediate firing of Agent James Montiel and prosecution to the fullest extent of the law- we will not stop until that happens. The man the officers were looking for was in custody. Running from law-enforcement shouldn’t equal a death sentence, especially being shot in the back. The actions that Agent Montiel took resulted in murder and must not be taken lightly. The community is demanding action.
Salaythis’s Life Matters.
