Lunch & Learn: Breaking Her Story

March 5 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Join the History Center’s research librarian, Melissa Procko, for a discussion with Central Florida journalists Desiree Stennett and Monivette Cordeiro of the Orlando Sentinel. They’ll discuss their careers, the most important stories they’ve investigated, and their thoughts on the future of journalism.
Desiree Stennett is a senior reporter at the Orlando Sentinel. She writes stories about how race, identity, and inequality impact politics, criminal justice, economics, housing, and other aspects of life. In the past, she has covered breaking news, criminal justice, economic development, and business. She has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Florida A&M University.
Monivette Cordeiro covers courts, crime, and other breaking news for the Orlando Sentinel. She previously worked as a digital content editor and staff writer for the Orlando Weekly, where her work covering the Pulse nightclub shooting, Orlando’s LGBTQ community and police use of facial recognition surveillance has gained recognition from the Association of Alternative Newsmedia, including first place in LGBT coverage category for the 2018 AAN Awards. She’s also done stints as a beat reporter at the Winter Haven News-Chief, The Ledger, and The Gainesville Sun. A graduate of the University of Florida, she is originally from Azusa, California.
Cost $5; free for members. This event will be held via the Zoom platform.
