March Monthly Meeting: Florida’s Fungi with Chris Matson
March 5 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pmFREE
* Free Event! Open to the public.
An enthusiast’s perspective of mushrooms including lots of photos of fungi, an overview what they are and are not, of their life cycle, of several important common groups of them, some identifications, and other interesting trivia. Look forward to a lighthearted talk from this imperfect enthusiast who hopes to catch your interest enough to learn something and want more.
Chris Matson is a well-versed naturalist who has a broad understanding of native plants from The northern Great Plains and Tallgrass biome of the Upper Midwest, and the eastern US from Maine to Florida.
His Florida conservation experience began when he oversaw the restoration of hundreds of acres of native flatwoods, wet prairie and depressional wetland groundcover during his 7 years at The Nature Conservancy’s Disney Wilderness Preserve, where he also pioneered techniques in control of Wright’s nutrush, co-discovering the efficacy of diquat alongside Ken Langeland. He is currently learning fungal ID and basic mycology in order to better understand relationships between ecological restoration and mycology.
