Nerd Nite is an evening of entertaining and educational presentations. Speakers present for 15 minutes, followed by a brief Q&A with the audience. Nerd Nite operates in over a hundred cities around the world and launched in Orlando on Thursday, March 14, 2013.

PRESENTATION #1: “How to Survive a Plane Crash” by Josh Murdock
What would you do if your plane crashed in a remote part of the countryside in Canada during winter with temperatures dropping below -30 degrees with only a short list of supplies for surviving? Test your survival skills and learn about what is really useful in surviving a plane crash.
Josh Murdock, known as Professor Josh, is the Department Head of Technology and Education at Orange County Library System and Associate Professor of education and IT at Valencia College. He’s a community organizer, blogger, and all-around geek. He has been in education for over 20 years, including teaching educational technology, social networking, and ethics in IT currently at Valencia College for the last 15 years. He conducted a number of team building sessions utilize survival scenarios, design thinking, and LEGO Serious Play. You might have seen his food photography (@eatmoreofit) or his love for LEGO, edtech, and geekiness (@professorjosh) on both Twitter or Instagram. He continues to build a community around education, technology, blogging, and entrepreneurship as EdTech Orlando organizer, Startup Weekend Orlando organizer, and founding planning team member of FLBlogCon. His motto: Engage, Excite, Educate!
PRESENTATION #2: “Math for a Better City” by Eliza Harris Juliano
Learn how math and science can help make decisions that are better for cities; and better understand how good (or bad) city planning affects your everyday life in sometimes counter-intuitive ways.
Eliza is the Director of Urbanism at Canin Associates, where she helps communities and developers build and rebuild neighborhoods where walking or biking to run an errand or go to school is a safe and pleasant experience.
