OP Workshop: Biochar Build at the PBP!
July 15, 2017 @ 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Join Orlando Permaculture, Micanopy Joe, and Wae Nelson in this biochar build!
This workshop is $5 and is held at the Peanut Butter Palace. They request that you park at Jay Blanchard Park close to the playground. There is an entrance to the neighborhood. Parking map below!
Joe Pierce or Micanopy Joe will go over how to make biochar, where is came from, and show you his biochar kiln in action! Joe is a self-proclaimed Jack of all trades master of none. He is a very knowledgeable and hardworking individual who has been spreading the word about biochar all over FL.
After Joe’s presentation, our own Orlando local expert Wae Nelson will be leading the workshop on building his smaller biochar kiln. Wae used to be a NASA engineer and designed the kiln by himself from mostly recycled materials using only hand tools. Wae has provide a list of supplies you can bring to the workshop that you will use to make your own biochar kiln.
Wae requests that you bring:
“1) A steel gallon paint can. The steel ones a harder to find than they used to be. I usually get them from auto body shops. Home Depot and Lowes have new unused ones. They cost around $5.
2) A pizza sauce can (a #10 can). Italian or pizza restaurants usually go through several every day.
In both these cases, I tell the shop that I’m working on a community project that uses discarded cans. They’re always happy to help.”
3) An empty 28 oz Bushes Bean can (or equivilent), It’s taller than other cans of the same size.
Anyone with tin snips should bring them as we have alot of metal to cut to make these kilns, other than that we should have all the tools necessary.
