The Groveland Four

In 1949, four Negro boys were convicted of raping a white woman in Groveland, Florida, a Deep South bastion known for rampant KKK terrorism. Harry T. Moore and Thurgood Marshall fearlessly struggled to obtain justice for the defendants and finally won an appeal of the death sentence verdicts. In 1951, the US Supreme Court overturned the convictions based on the violation of the 14th Amendment of the US Constitution due to the overwhelming evidence of the denial of due process resulting from (1) the lack of Negroes on the jury, (2) the hostile environment that prejudiced the jury pool and (3) the widespread false media.
