Milk District entertainment venue, Iron Cow (Facebook), after being forced to temporarily close its doors in the height of the pandemic, will finally reopen its doors on Saturday, May 7 at 4 p.m., the same day as community block party, Rockin’ Robinson.

Iron Cow will be hosting a community event of its own that it is calling “Cowabunga” which will feature live music by local groups Jump Drv, Mountain Crab, Trash Cinema, and more. The event is not affiliated with the larger Rockin’ Robinson event and the event poster goes so far as to state that the venue is “…not affiliated with Milk District Main Street.”

According to Board of Zoning Adjustment minutes from October 2021, Iron Cow was forced to close temporarily when it lost its parking agreement with a nearby property owner and then hit a roadblock with the City of Orlando when it tried to secure a new liquor license and a parking variance in 2020.

The City of Orlando would not allow Iron Cow to get a license without fixing the gap in allotted parking spaces. The problems with the city were increased when a new code was passed in 2019 that stated no licenses would be issued to a business that was within 300 feet of a residential property (which Iron Cow definitely is) and even further exacerbated when City Hall began treating the license application as that of a new business, despite the fact that Iron Cow had been operating for two years prior.

The owner, Matthew Harris, ultimately succeeded in his case against the City of Orlando and has been allowed to reopen. Hence the party.

Iron Cow is located at 2438 E. Robinson Street [GMap].
