The Orange County Library System Board of Trustees just approved the leases for new library branches in both Lake Nona and Horizon West at the recent June 9th meeting.

The news comes nearly a year after the board voted to look into the possibility of opening the two new ranches following an outpouring of support (and demands) from both communities. The City of Orlando presented an offer at the July 8, 2021 Board of Trustees meeting that would include a new library branch as part of the new Southeast Orlando Government Center being proposed for Dowden Road.

The building will be constructed at the city’s expense, as well as parking and infrastructure, and leased to the library system at market value, and will also include a shared outdoor space and stage, that will be leased to the library when it is finished, with an option for the library to purchase the building at a later date.

The new 20,000 SF branch in Horizon West will be located on a parcel near the Hamlin Groves Trail which will share parking with an adjacent County recreation center.

Updates on the Lake Nona and Horizon West branch projects will be posted to the library’s website as they are available.
