The Orlando Ballet announced last week that it has secured dates, terms and conditions for its 2020-21 season at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts.

The announcement comes on the heels of a months-long dispute between the Ballet and the downtown Center management over rising rental rates for Steinmetz Hall when it opens in 2020. Joined in the fight alongside the Ballet were the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra and Opera Orlando; who were both equally verbal in their disdain for the associated costs in using the new venue but the Ballet went so far as to publish a fact sheet for local media outlining a list of complaints which you can see HERE on Orlando Weekly.

But now they’re singing a different tune.

“The Dr. Phillips Center is indeed a crown jewel of the community, and we are proud to call it our performance home.”

Notably, despite the public dispute and subsequent reparations, the Orlando Ballet will still host a number of performances of its upcoming season in the soon-to-open Harriett’s Orlando Ballet Centre in Ivanhoe Village, rather than staying downtown. Rental Rates for Steinmetz Hall will remain frozen at the present level for the next two years with capped 5 percent raises each subsequent year.

Both Opera Orlando and the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra are still in negotiations with the Dr. Phillips Center but they are hoping to get the same deal as the Ballet.

Prior to this final round of negotiations with the three squeaky art wheels, who were always meant to serve as resident art groups at Dr. Phillips, The Center had launched a new rental-fees structure for all local nonprofit groups.

The Tourist Development Council just launched a new fund to subsidize the rental fees at The Center that will be overseen by United Arts of Central Florida. More information on that at a later date.
