YEP, IT SAYS "10-FOOT, TWO-WAY BIKE LANE"

A new protected cycle path is in the works for downtown Orlando as part of the long-awaited Orlando Bicycle Beltway project.

The 8.5-mile Beltway will take riders throughout downtown Orlando via a connecter between Gertrude’s Walk and the Orlando Urban Trail to a planned route along Lake Underhill and Anderson Street.

The Downtown Connector Trail is an essential part of that project and would feature a separate, protected, two-way bike lane along Pine Street, as seen in the below plans.

The 10-foot, two-way bike lane will be separated from East Pine Street commuters by a three-foot concrete buffer.

Funds for this portion of the beltway trail, which we told you about HERE two years ago, will come from the City’s Neighborhood Improvement Bond. The next steps for the project are to complete the engineering design plans before moving forward with an estimated completion date of Spring 2021.

  1. How will this go past the entrance to the Waverly on Lake Eola Condominium parking garage which is right on Pine Street same side as new bike lane?

  2. Are they going to pave the bike lane? Many sections of Pine St are brick, and aren’t ideal for riding electric vehicles (bikes, scooters, skateboards, etc). I live on Pine/Rosalind and evacuate Pine St once it turns to brick on my way to work (even though it has a dedicated bike lane) because the ride conditions are too harsh.
