Wally’s Mills Avenue Liquors (Website) is being helmed by a new captain, well two sets of captains, really.

Pete Downing of Da Kine Poke has joined forces with the folks at Orion Hospitality Group to take over operations of the popular Mills 50 watering hole and bring back some of its old school, divey charm.

Savvy Bungalower readers may recall that Orion Hospitality Group is the team that owns Swigg’s Orlando, Fuel Orlando, Nona Social, and Stokes (formerly Frosty’s Christmastime Lounge). Stokes re-opened as a new concept right before St. Patrick’s Day and the pandemic, and was forced to close after only one day of operations, but has since reopened to the public.

Downing, who also owns Market on Magnolia in downtown Orlando, and Orion told Bungalower that they are going to keep the recent renovations but are looking forward to an expanded building in the near future, which we reported on HERE. Those plans include the addition of kitchen space, a more formal outdoor patio, and a permanent awning. In the meantime, they have added a temporary patio space in the parking lot with umbrellas and picnic tables for socially-distant drinking.

THE BOOBY WALLPAPER WILL REMAIN IN PLACE

Patrons can expect the return of the jukebox, stiff pours, cold beer, and 7 a.m. service when Wally’s reopens sometime in the next week or so – liquor license permitting. The package store will be scaled down a bit but you can still buy bottles of liquor on-site.

We will share any information about an opening once we have it in-hand.
