The eco-friendly a 118 guest-room hotel opened yesterday in the old OUC office building at 500 S Orange Ave [GMap].
The Aloft is a Starwood owned hotel brand. The hotel is described on their website as “a hip new hotel where you’ll be steps away from City Hall and the Amway Center. We offer easy-breezy access to major corporations, wedding venues, restaurants, museums, shopping, theme parks, and golf courses. Energy flows and personalities mingle in a setting that combines urban-influenced design, accessible technology, and a social scene that’s always abuzz.”
The hotel includes a pool on the front patio, conference and meeting space, XYZ bar which is an indoor bar and an outdoor patio.
The first guests began arriving last night. Their official grand opening will happen later this year.
Here are some photos we grabbed from our tour of the hotel:

I guess I was expecting something a tad more upscale, with at least an exterior facelift. And a pool on the front patio? A bit strange. (In agreement with @Alison but wasn’t going to be the one to say it.)
It’s on the national register of historic places….so I was told they couldn’t make any exterior changes. But I’m not sure that is accurate (based on my quick Google Search). Anyone else know more?
Anything? Not even paint color? Just wondering. Not suggesting. 🙂
Yeah. They did a great job. They weren’t able to do anything with the outside.
Nice option for modern design fans. Had a great experience at the Aloft in Chapel Hill, NC
You would not have expected the nice inside based on the outside.
Might have to check out the bar sometime soon.
Looks like IKEA furnished the place.
Oh? You heard “W” and thought fancy schmancy? I wouldn’t mind staying at aloft (assuming I didn’t live down the street).
Not at all what I was expecting.
