Tako Cheena (Facebook), the Mexican/Asian fusion restaurant in Mills 50, will be celebrating its fourth year of operation this September, just not where you might think.
Tako Cheena’s current location will become a “Tako Cheena Express” to better serve the late night and quick-eats crowd that have come to love it. It will also be getting a quick service window installed in the back of the restaurant to facilitate faster pick-up and take-outs.
Just up the street, in the former Forbidden City building [Gmap], the owner will be opening another Tako Cheena, complete with table service. The patio out front that faces Mills Avenue will more than double the occupancy of the traditionally small Mills 50 eatery, but will be standing room only. The plans for the space call for brighter colors and plenty of murals, but the building itself will retain the old-world Asian feel neighbors have come to love.
Although neither restaurants will be serving alcohol, both are meant to be BYOB, so feel free to bring your own drinks with you to wash down your butter chicken burritos.
The planned build-out for the new Tako Cheena location is expected to be complete in two months, with the aim of the owner being able to host the four-year anniversary of the restaurant at the new space.
