The City of Orlando has launched a new Food Waste Collection Program at all three Orlando Farmers Markets this month.
Orlando residents can now recycle their kitchen scraps – including meat, bones, and dairy – for free at participating farmers market locations; Parramore, Lake Eola, and Audubon Park.
Each market will have designated drop-off stations during the event hours where residents can bring their food waste rather than send it to local landfills. The waste will then be turned into energy. With science!
Interested eco-nerds can collect their food scraps in a sealed container and drop off the food at the market. Then simply rinse your container and repeat. A friendly tip for first-timers is to freeze your food scraps to eliminate bad smells and fruit flies. You can also line the container with biodegradable liners to minimize cleanup.
Participating markets include:
- Parramore Farmers Market every Saturday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at 328 W. Central Boulevard [GMap]
- Orlando Farmers Market every Sunday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at 512 E. Washington Street [GMap]
- Audubon Park Community Market every Monday from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at 1842 E. Winter Park Road [GMap]
