Plans for a new 33-story mixed-use tower headed to the South Eola neighborhood in downtown Orlando will now include the addition of an art museum, helmed by the Orlando Museum of Art.
We first told you about the new tower HERE in September 2020, along with plans that included condominiums, a dog park, a five-star hotel, and an additional 527,200 SF of commercial and convention center space.
As first reported by Orlando Sentinel, the Orlando Museum of Art’s Board of Trustees just voted to approve a plan to open a second hotel museum in the new tower and to renovate the museum’s current space in Loch Haven Park.
The announcement follows a January 2019 leak from then-director Glen Gentele’s plans to possibly move the museum to Lake Nona, in response to an offer from Tavistock. Tavistock had been enlisted by the museum to identify a new location in the downtown core but offered their Lake Nona campus as an alternative when the hunt proved harder than expected.
The new tower will be located at the 350 E. Pine Street [GMap] block, just between Pine and Lake Streets.

Mixed on this idea. I would rather see the OMofA purchase the lot at Pine – Rosiland & Church and find a way to acquire the Orange County Admin Building across the street and then create a new Art Museum that spans the two blocks and becomes a signature piece downtown. This space is nice but on a side street that lacks visibility.
I think you meant a second location, not a second hotel. 😀
