We told you HERE last week that the owners of Parliament House Resort (Facebook | Website) were looking to open a new venue downtown under the same name in the former CityArts Factory building at 29 S. Orange Avenue [GMap]. Now it seems like one of the missing pieces to the new project is a rainbow-colored sculpture.
While many of the “artifacts” from within the nightclub/resort were either torn from the walls or freely given to staff and guests in the last few days of the iconic queer venue’s operations, the owners were hoping to save two major pieces for future generations; the iconic sign that faced out on Orange Blossom Trail and a quirky statue of a monk that had been painted in the colors of the rainbow that greeted guests as they entered through the front courtyard.
While the sign was saved by the City of Orlando and put into storage for some future activations/displays, the monk was taken by some sticky-fingered admirers.
Now the owners want the monk back so it can be displayed at the new venue when it opens up in downtown Orlando and they’re prepared to give one year of free cover to their events if the person or persons who took it bring it back safely.
