OUC has just completed a purchase of the Osceola Generating station; a 510-megawatt single-cycle natural gas-fired power plant near Harmony in Osceola County.
The roughly $100 million deal to purchase the inactive plant is part of the utility company’s 30-year energy roadmap and allows them to retire its oldest coal-fired power plant, Stanton Unit 1, which went into operation in 1987 in east Orange County.
OUC has declared its intentions to aggressively increase its reliance on solar energy outside of this acquisition, with plans to boost capacity to power 50,000 residential homes with solar sources by late 2023.
