Florida’s Mid-Century Modern Architecture (1945-1975)
This presentation shares the process and outcomes of a statewide inventory of mid-20th century architecture of the Sunshine State. The presentation explores the architects, manufacturers, and design trends and themes that helped transform Florida’s built environment over the three decades following the Second World War. The presentation will conclude with a discussion of the challenges to preserving modern architecture.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER:
Morris (Marty) Hylton III is Director of Historic Preservation and Associate Scholar at the University of Florida’s College of Design, Construction and Planning where his research focuses on preserving post- World War II modern architecture and resources.
Marty co-authored Florida’s Mid-Century Modern Architecture (1945-1975), a statewide survey of significant modernist structures meeting the criteria for listing on the National Register of Historic Places.
