Portrait Project – Opening Reception
November 15, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pmfree
What if what you THINK you look like, isn’t what you ACTUALLY look like to the rest of the world?
As a professional portrait photographer, I’m often confronted by a strange reaction to a portrait. It’s almost as if some subjects DON’T RECOGNIZE themselves in their own photographs.
I’ve thought a lot about this over the past decade — and tens of thousands of portraits I’ve made. So I decided to design a photographic experiment, controlling as many variables as possible, to test a theory.
So far, 74 women have participated in this experiment, and the results seem pretty compelling. But I won’t know for sure until the evening of Nov. 15, when we unveil the results in front of an audience. Then we will find out if there’s any validity to my hypothesis. Subjects and audience members alike will be able to judge for themselves. I hope you’re there, too.
ALSO: Nov 15 is the Third Thursday of the month, and it’s a very special one. This will be the LAST Third Thursday in the CityArts Factory. After this month, they will be moving down the street a block to the Rogers Kiene Building formerly the Gallery at Avalon Island.
So please stop by and see all the artwork on display, and take a look at the Portrait Project and see if you think I’m onto something here, or if I’m full of baloney. Your opinion and honest feedback are important to me.
There is no cost to attend this Third Thursday art stroll, hosted by the Downtown Arts District Orlando.
