At Central Florida Foundation we are all feeling so many emotions. Without question, we are deeply saddened and disturbed by the recent deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and other Black lives across the country. We acknowledge and stand with the individuals using their voices, and we believe in creating a community where everyone feels at home, especially people of color.
As a community, it’s clear there is vital work to do.
While we don’t claim to be perfect or to have all of the answers, as a community foundation, we are here to ask questions, to listen, to convene, to create space for all voices to be heard, and to be part of solutions. Daily, the Foundation focuses on high-impact philanthropy and systemic change, and now is no different.
We must keep our focus and commit to actions that back our words.
To begin, next week we will facilitate a conversation with community leaders who have been committed to addressing racism and the other issues that protestors are drawing attention to locally and all over the United States. These individuals will share their thoughts about the root causes of the protests, what this means for us in Central Florida, answer questions, and much more.
We want you to know, this will be a space for real conversation with individuals that can speak frankly about racism, protests and how we move forward to effect change. |
