Wild Weeds Walk with Emily Ruff
November 25, 2018 @ 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm$25
Enjoy a beautiful walk in our area’s best nature parks to identify edible and medicinal plants growing all around us.
Join us for a walk in the wilds of Central Florida to discover medicinal and edible plants that are growing all around us. Get to know the plants in our ecosystems and explore their ethnobotanical uses! Along the hike, edible plants and trees are taught as we meander through the park. There will be a discussion about the plant/shrub/tree; whether edible or medicinal, other uses and how to identify. This is a hands-on course where tasting, smelling and feeling is important. It is taught in a fun and practical way to make the experience educational and enjoyable. Mead Gardens is home to over 150 cataloged edible and medicinal species; one of the best natural repositories of its kind in urban Central Florida. The 55-acre botanical garden is centrally located and easily accessible from I-4 if you are coming from out of town. The hike is easy and level with several stops along the way. Well-behaved children are welcome as students. Most hikes cover 20-30 different species and vary depending on the season of the year. During the hike we will cross through different ecosystems, so you can get a feel for the diversity of Florida’s landscape.
