UPDATE: January 26, 2017 – Lake Alert Remains in effect for Lake Arnold
The City of Orlando stormwater division has detected unsafe concentrations of toxins resulting from an algae bloom in Lake Arnold. Lake Arnold is located in the Dover Shores neighborhood, just south of Lake Underhill [GMap].
Microcystins and cyanobacteria/blue-green algae are always present but can sometimes become an issue when combined with warm water and excessive nutrients from fertilizer run-off, yard waste, and leaking septic tanks. These toxins can be harmful to humans and pets, so the City is advising residents to refrain from swimming and recreating in, or irrigating from, the lake until further notice.
As the algae dies off, it will smell.
