You may be familiar with local architect Ryan Young from previous I Wish This Was …  columns that he’s done with us. Young is an architect and founder of leading design and construction group Interstruct Inc, which is responsible for projects like the new Milk District warehouse and many buildings in the Hourglass District.

One of the recent Hourglass District projects is a residential project at 1300 Francis Avenue [GMap]. Young is working on the second phase of a project called the Francis Townhomes, which you can see HERE. The only thing standing in the way is a single-story, abandoned home that the County can’t seem to figure out what to do with.

“Orange County zoning can’t make up their mind what they are going to let me do with this house … so I am painting it with hourglass murals in protest.” – Ryan Young

Young hired local artist Maureen Hudas (Instagram) to paint the front and sides of the home in the vibrant colors seen below. Hudas has since finished the painting but there’s been no word from the County yet.
