A recent press release from the Florida Department of Transportation has revealed that Brightline has submitted a proposal to provide intercity passenger rail service between Orlando and Tampa.

The proposal was submitted in response to a Request for Proposals issued by FDOT in June 2018. The RFP includes the leasing of rights of way owned by the Department and Central Florida Expressway Authority.

An appointed committee will now review the proposal and make recommendations to the Project Selection Committee, based on whether the submission meets requirements outlined in the RFP.

The committee will meet on November 28 and post their decision on FDOT’s website HERE.

Brightline (Website) is currently still constructing their intercity higher-speed rail system between Orlando and Miami. Which we’ve written about previously, HERE.

  1. I would hope that the central Florida expressway authority grant permission for Brightline ROW with the stipulation that Sunrail be allowed access to the railway. This theoretically could provide Sunrail access to International drive, universal, and Disney.
