A former general store/laundromat in East Orlando is in the process of being renovated by new owners.
Fort Pitt (Facebook | Website), located at 5565 Old Cheney Highway [GMap] – the furthest east we can write about without leaving our coverage area – first opened in 1923 as a corner grocery store. The new property is meant to operate as a food hall/retail hub along the same lines as East End Market.
If you squint your eyes or crack too many beers, the architecture is reminiscent of a castle, hence the name. The new team has renovated the building, updated the facade, and added a courtyard with outdoor seating.
While the Fort is not officially open yet, local food truck V’s Vegan Diner (Facebook) is currently operating out of the courtyard on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and a new Puerto Rican Gastropub is set to open in the next 60 days. Two other tenants will be moving in as well but they hadn’t been announced at the time of this post.
Plans are being made to develop neighboring lots into townhomes with more restaurants.
We will share more information as it comes available.
Those are my memories everyday to Ft. Pitt. Dirt roads dusty flip flop toes.❤️
