Orange County chooses winner of I-4 public art contest

-

The latest sculpture in the ongoing I-4 Ultimate Art Endownment Program has been announced and it is by none other than local/international artist, JEFRË, who is currently exhibiting works at the Orlando Museum of Art through January 3, 2021.

OUR PREVIEW OF ORLANDO MUSEUM OF ART EXHIBITION ENTITLED, “JEFRE: POINTS OF CONNECTION.”

JEFRË, born Jefre Figueras Manuel, is a Filipino-American artist who specializes in larger than life public sculptures and has commissions on display from Lake Nona to the Philippines.

His new piece entitled “Family Tree” will measure 30-feet tall and sit atop a pedestal that is an additional 10-feet tall, at the intersection of Grand National Drive and Caravan Court [GMap] by Universal Studios, and is similar in style to his work that is on display at the Orlando Museum of Art with its angular, reflective surfaces, and box headed figures.

A timeline for the project is not public at this time but fabrication on the piece is expected to take four or five months alone, as well as the time needed for delivery and installation, so expect to see it in 2021.

An announcement on who was chosen for the City of Orlando art piece is still forthcoming but the Winter Park decision was made public in March 2020.
