The Orlando City Council approved to award the amount of $6.95 million to Gibbes and Register, Inc., to build a new bike trail just south of downtown.
The 1.6-mile Downtown Connector Trail will connect Summerlin Avenue to Lake Underhill Road and run along the south side of Anderson Street, once completed, connecting to the 8.5-mile Bicycle Beltway which will encircle all of downtown Orlando.
The entire Bicycle Beltway is expected to be completed by 2024.
This is great! I can’t wait for it to be finished and be able to bike safely around downtown. This will not only provide a safe place to bike, but for walkers, runners… everyone to enjoy the urban outdoors!
$4.3 million dollars a mile ($813 per foot) for a bike trail. Is this an April fools joke in November? or has the city council lost their minds??
