UPDATE: We’ve only included the breweries that won medals in our downtown “bungalow neighborhood” coverage area.

A number of Orlando area breweries just came back with some awards after repping The City Beautiful at a state-wide competition.

A number of breweries took home awards at the most recent Best Florida Beer event, which pits breweries from across the state against each other in a number of categories.

  • Clearwater-based Big Storm Brewing Co. (which isn’t necessarily local but has an annex at the Amway Center) won gold for “Experimental IPA” for its Bromosa IPA.
  • Broken Strings won silver for its Sugared Stout Gang – Chocolate Caramel Shortbread Cookie for “Dessert Stout.”
  • Deadwords Brewing won silver for its KERO brew in the “Experimental Beer” category and bronze for its God Complex brew in the “American or Belgian Sour Ale” category.
  • Gatlin Hall Brewing took home the gold for its Earthwarden in the “Juicy/Hazy IPA” category and gold for its Brady’s Psychedelic Breakfast for “Dessert Stout.”
  • Ivanhoe Park Brewing won Gold for its popular take on a California Common, its 1915 brew at the Best Florida Beer event.
  • Motorworks Brewing won gold for its Mango Habanero IPA in “Chili Beer ” bronze in the same category with its Tequila BA Datil Imperial Porter, bronze for its Thanks Its A Hybrid in “Juicy/Hazy Strong Pale Ale,” gold for its Two Kid Tired in “Floridaweisse,” and silver in “American or Belgian Sour Ale for its Salvaje brew.
  • Tactical Brewing won bronze for its Late Night Brunchy Call in the “Chocolate Beer” rankings and gold for its 11 Alive in the “Coffee Beer” category and gold for its “Wizard’s Tooth” in “American Amber Lager.”

Crooked Can Brewing Co. walked away with gold overall for “Heavy Medal – Brewer” followed by 3rd Planet Brewing and Calusa Brewing tying for second place.
