According to a press release issued late afternoon on Wednesday, August 24, Dr. Luder Whitlock has resigned from his post as interim director at the Orlando Museum of Art.

The Board of Trustees has already officially accepted his resignation and will be forming a committee of board members which will work with a professional search firm to oversee the pursuit of a new CEO and executive director of the museum effective immediately.

The museum announced Whitlock’s appointment less than a month ago when it shared that its trustees would be forming a new task force to review all of its currently planned exhibitions as a result of the fallout from the “fake Basquiat” controversy. Whitlock, who has served with a number of foundations in recent years, previously stepped in as interim director in 2020 ahead of the hiring of Aaron De Groft in January 2021.

A reason for Dr. Whitlock’s resignation has not been made public at this time.

The Task Force issued a statement as well sharing the following updates.
