The City of Winter Park will be temporarily closing the Venetian Canal between Lake Maitland and Lake Osceola starting on Monday, April 17, to carry out regular maintenance dredging, which removes excess sediment.

The canal will be restricted from Monday through Friday for the next six weeks but will be available for regular public use on Saturdays and Sundays. Once work on the Venetian Canal has been completed, crews will move to the Fern Canal, which connects Lake Osceola to Lake Virginia, though that work is only expected to take three weeks.

The City of Winter Park will provide an update once work has been completed.

The canals are part of the Winter Park Chain of Lakes, which is made up of six lakes connected by canals, including Lake Maitland, Lake Minnehaha, Lake Mizell, Lake Nina, Lake Osceola, and Lake Virginia.
