The City of Orlando will host its 46th consecutive Fireworks at the Fountain celebration on July 4 at Lake Eola Park, next week.

The event will run from 4-10 p.m. with live entertainment, family-friendly fun, and food and beverages available for purchase from a variety of onsite vendors.

The firework show is scheduled for 9:10 p.m. over Lake Eola and will be set to a live performance by the Orlando Concert Band. People who feel more comfortable watching from home can tune in on News 6 WKMG at 8 p.m. or watch it online at ClickOrlando.com.

Last year’s firework event featured a gun scare and a stampede when onlookers allegedly mistook the sound of the fireworks explosions for gunfire sending thousands of people running out of downtown Orlando.

While Orlando Police still maintain that there was nothing to fear but fear itself, they have stepped up security precautions in downtown Orlando in preparation of this year’s event, with Chief of Police, Eric Smith saying, “… aside from officers patrolling, there will be other resources out there that are less identifiable.”

We are committed to ensuring the safety and security of our community during our Fourth of July celebration and all of our events. This year, the city has added additional resources to further safety at the event. It’s important to note that our security measures are both visible and not visible. Aside from officers patrolling, there will be other resources out there that are less identifiable.

While our officers will be actively working to keep our community safe, we encourage you to be proactive as well by keeping yourself, your loved ones, and your neighbors safe.

Call police at 911 to report any suspicious activity.Let’s celebrate responsibly, enjoy the festivities, and make this Fourth of July a memorable and safe occasion.

– CHIEF ERIC SMITH, ORLANDO POLICE
