John Rivers’ standalone fried chicken restaurant, The Coop (Instagram | Website), will close this Sunday.

Rivers, the man behind the 4Rivers Smokehouse brand, took to social media early Monday morning to share a message on behalf of himself and the entire 4R family that the restaurant would be closing on Sunday, July 16.

Rivers states in his posts that the “current market rates are unfortunately well beyond what our little business can justify in renewing the lease,” so they made the tough decision to close after nine-and-a-half years.

The Coop opened in August 2014 in Winter Park’s Hannibal Square, and specialized in Southern dishes like chicken and dumplings, fried chicken, and more, in a quick-serve/buffet-style atmosphere.

We reached out to John Rivers to see if this closure will affect the Coop-themed food stall at Exploria Stadium, who shared the following.

“No changes planned at this time for Exploria or any of the other outlets the COOP is served. Thankfully, the tenders remain a favorite for our soccer fans!”
