Orlando has seen a number of seemingly random car fires on I-4 in the past two weeks, one of which happened directly under the westbound Interstate 4 Express Lane bridge from State Road 408, covering it in thick black smoke and damaging the nearby asphalt.

FDOT confirmed with Bungalower that FDOT District 5 Structures Maintenance bridge inspectors (try fitting that on a name badge) responded immediately after the vehicle was removed to inspect the bridge, and found that there was no structural damage covered by the fire, other than a great deal of soot being found on the bridge.

FDOT plans to repave the damaged section of asphalt on the shoulder of the interstate by the end of next week, in early August.

FDOT asked Bungalower to reassure our readers that “safety is FDOT’s top priority,” saying that “Department’s Structures Maintenance inspectors respond immediately anytime there is an incident involving a bridge or other structure (such as a mast arm or sign).

Tensions were high with a number of Bungalower readers when we shared the above video, following the recent collapse of an I-95 overpass in Philadelphia, when a tanker truck carrying gasoline lost control and caught fire this past June.
