Local drag icon Leigh Shannon (Website) has issued a public statement that she has parted ways with drag burger bar, Hamburger Mary’s (Facebook | Website) after 14 years.

The performer made the announcement following their 14-year anniversary show, sharing that the restaurant would continue to host a Saturday Night performance without them, citing that the owners were going “a different route.” The upcoming Saturday Cabaret Dinner Show performance on Saturday, August 19, will be hosted by Chyna Cravens with special guests Myki Meeks and Chavela Belleza.

Leigh is one of the longest-running local drag performers in Central Florida and the owner of Ritzy Rags in College Park, a shop specializing in drag paraphernalia and custom wigs for performing and everyday use.

Hamburger Mary’s posted the following statement on its Facebook page.

The Church Street venue recently succeeded in winning an injunction against the State of Florida’s “Protection of Children” law, which grants state agencies the power to revoke liquor licenses and even close a venue, if children are allowed to attend “adult performances” or acts where people wear “prosthetic or imitation genitals or breasts.”
