“Hey, Brendan. Do you know why it’s so hazy downtown? Is there a fire somewhere?”

– BUNGALOWER READER

Well, the smoke isn’t isolated to downtown Orlando. If you’ve been wondering where this fog-like grey haze came from this week, you can blame Canada. The combination of a high-pressure system over the eastern United States and a low-pressure system over Florida has funneled wildfire smoke out of Canada and as far south as Miami this week, according to our friends at FOX 35 Weather.

There are currently over 300 out-of-control wildfires across the northern border, with a particular hotspot in the Hudson Bay area. The result is heavy, smoky air that is sitting in the “unhealthy” zone of the Air Quality Index in Central Florida. Individuals sensitive to poor air quality should minimize time spent outdoors for the time being.

The air is expected to clear later this week.
