Popular Thornton Park brunch spot, Island Time (Facebook), made a name for itself during the pandemic with weekly drag brunches hosted on its front porch and in the adjacent street, bringing sold-out crowds each weekend. That is until a drunken driver came along at 1:30 a.m. and ruined everything.

In late March, a driver crashed their vehicle into a city-sponsored parklet located in the street to facilitate more outdoor, socially-distant, dining. The car managed to take out almost all of Island Time’s outdoor furniture, and canceled weeks of outdoor programming until the part was moved into the rear of the property.

Island Time has since invested more money into the rear courtyard and it will be reopening at 6 p.m. on Thursday, October 12 as an official outdoor event space called the “Secret Garden.” The space will open to the public officially this Thursday as part of the Thornton Park District Wine and Art Walk, by which time, Island Time is hoping to have a new liquor license. If they fail to have it by the event, they will be offering half-price bottles of wine.

Follow their Facebook event page for more updates and information.
