Zaru (Instagram), that new Japanese udon shop we told you about HERE in August, is now open.

The new 25-seat dining concept is located at 1114 E. Colonial Drive [GMap] in Mills 50, next to longtime grocer, Tien Hung Market. The restaurant is a new project by James Beard-recognized restaurateurs Jimmy and Johnny Tung.

The new dining room and open kitchen were designed by Make Studios and marks the first of several new concepts planned for the expansive 10,000 SF market.

“We wanted to carry on the 500-year-old noodle-making tradition. Traveling throughout Japan earlier this year, I loved how the udon tasted there, and wanted to bring that experience back to Florida. We’re sourcing premium udon flour, and working with a local Japanese company for custom equipment from the Kagawa region.”

– JOHNNY TUNG, CO-OWNER

Zaru is named after the shallow bamboo basket used to prepare udon noodles in Japanese cuisine and the menu features an array of items like housemade crab gyoza, zaru udon, ikura shiso udon, and Edo-style tempura.

Zaru is open daily for lunch and dinner.
