12/15 UPDATE: The City of Orlando has lifted the Lake Alert for Lake Lawne.

The City of Orlando’s Streets and Stormwater Division has issued a Lake Alert for Lake Lawne in West Orlando due to possible elevations in E. coli counts following a recent sanitary waste spill.

A partially open valve near the intersection of Barry and Norwood Streets, just southwest of the Mercy Drive and West Colonial intersection, resulted in sanitary waste flowing into nearby stormwater ditches and the street.

Water Reclamation crews from the City of Orlando and Orange County Public Utilities managed to clean up approximately 168,000 gallons of waste.

Warning signs have been placed at Barnett Park’s boat ramp, Lake Lawne Park, and at the entrance to the fishing pier, advising against water contact activities, including irrigation, until further notice.
