Enzian Theater will be hosting a special screening of Terry Gilliam’s award-winning work, 12 Monkeys on Saturday, January 20, accompanied by a lecture about the realities of time travel.

The 1995 science fiction thriller was based on a screenplay by David and Janet Peoples, which was in turn inspired by Chris Marker’s 1962 short film, La Jetee (which inspired local entrepreneur Joseph Todd to open La Jetee Perfumery and Apothecary in Ivanhoe Village).

The film tells the story of a man named James Cole, played by Bruce Willis, who is recruited for a mission sometime in the 2030s to be sent back to the 1990s to gather information about a plague that is about to wipe out most of the human population.

The screening will feature a discussion led by Dr. James Cooney, an associate lecturer in the Department of Physics at the University of Central Florida. He studies cosmology and the large-scale structure of the universe and co-hosts a popular astronomy podcast called “Walkabout the Galaxy.”

Tickets are $11 and available HERE for purchase.
